i think that this means that heaven will be full of surprises and will be very interesting and good. What do you think?
Notes or commentaries: Jewish writers used yeast in a lot of symbolic ways. Jesus said this because yeast ultimatly spreads throughout all parts. the amount of flour used was a lot more than a normal woman could make and the connection between it and heaven is that heaven will be more than anyone or anywhere else can give us.
another parable is: Matthew 13:44
i think that this means that once someone discovers heaven they will give up everything they have and enjoy it. what do you think?
Notes or commentaries: the kingdom of heaven would be hidden like a pearl or treasure but people that find it recognize its value and live according to it.
last parable: matthew 13:31-32
i think that this means that heaven looks small but once you get there or believe it is the biggest thing in our lives. what do you think?
Notes or commentaries: the mustard seed isn't literally the smallest seed but it made Jesus's point the best.
Student Work
Join the bca-stj.wikispaces.com wiki site.
Using the tool Edmodo, get to know each other for the purposes of forming a group (Check schedule for how long this "handshake" time lasts).
On the "Student Groups" page, create another wiki page as a group workspace where you will communicate with your partners in the discussion tab and collaborate on ideas.
The group work page will be a place to capture your learning about the Kingdom parables and begin brainstorming and planning your modern retelling.
Read and research the "Kingdom Parables" of Jesus in the Book of Matthew. Pick three of the parables to focus on and learn about ("focus on and learn about" means that the group has discussed and dissected its meaning and how it fits into the themes of the other two parables your group choose to work on). Refer to the bottom of the "Kingdom Parables" page for instructions on how to choose your parables.
Retell one of the parables so that a teenager in 2009 would understand what Jesus is trying to convey.
Choose from the following tools to convey your parable retelling: ToonDoo, Glogster, Bubbleshare, SlideShare, Podomatic(posted to the BCA Technology podcast channel), or a Video uploaded to Vimeo (contact Ms. Durff). If you would like to use another online tool not mentioned above, touch base with Ms. Durff or Mr. Jacklin in the discussion on this page so we can discuss it. We are pretty open-minded!
Your final and completed project must be embedded and clearly marked on your groups wiki page.
