Heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to tell the people he invited to the banquet to come, but they refused to come. Then he sent some more servants to tell those he had invited that he had prepared the food and everything was ready and to come to the wedding banquet. But they didn't listen and went off to their own business. The rest captured the king's servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king sent his army to destroy the murderers and burn their city. Then he told his servants to look around on the street corners and invite anyone they could find, because those he invited earlier hadn't come and had not deserved to come. So the servants invited everybody they could find on the streets and invited them to the wedding banquet.
